Maybe I’ve had so many lives laiden down with heavy commitment
yearning for freedom,
longing for space to stretch my wings.
In my most recent one I was married 40 years,
my soul was tired of the ‘keeping it together’
my lungs full of and restless from having
only one scent
on all my pillows.
And I decided
Self, just this once, we’re going to stick it out alone.
We’ll get to fill all those hours ourself
Do whatever we want
Answer to no one.
Just this lifetime
to try it out.
