Ads, Anxiety and Competition

In the Miss Representation video someone brings up that “advertising relies heavily on anxiety.”  If you don’t have this thing then you’ll be sub-par.  Beer ads which cater pretty much to men (come on) are great examples.

And of course my favorite offensive beer ad:

The insinuation behind these ads is “we have more to offer” to which you, as the girlfriend are supposed to be made to feel anxious, sub-par; threatened by these girls who are obviously more desirable to your man than the lass he picked.

Can we make a pact right now to not let ourselves be taken down by this

body-shaming bull and also to not contribute to it?
