I’m finally starting to understand what it means to ‘be with’ someone.

It’s not living with them.  It’s not sleeping with them.  Wearing their pin or class ring or letter jacket.

“I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.”
— Audrey Hepburn

It’s when they’re with you all the time.  Hovering over every decision you make like your own shadow.  When you carry them in your heart, they go with you wherever you are.

“I finally understood what true love meant…love meant that you care for another person’s happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be.”
— Nicholas Sparks (Dear John)

When they aren’t in the room you feel their presence, hear their words, see their smile.  Feel their joy, cry their pain.

“Life is an awful, ugly place to not have a best friend.”
— Sarah Dessen (Someone Like You)

I’m going to miss my best friend.

But she’ll be my roommate forever.
